Logitech ConferenceCams vs HuddleCamHD

HuddleCamHD designs professional video conferencing cameras with complete solutions and integration friendly options for the Professional AV market. Logitech designs compact cameras for small group chats with Bluetooth and NFC pairing options. Both companies manufacture cameras that are capable of delivering 1080p Full HD video at 30 FPS. Logitech gains an advantage because it also offers a speaker and a microphone for communication along with a control hub while HuddleCam only produces cameras not the control unit. HuddleCam HD cameras do include a remote control for pan, tilt and zoom but no speakers or microphone are available on-board.

Logitech ConferenceCams start at $249 and go all the way to $999. HuddleCam HD cameras are available for as low as $399 and as high as $3,599. We will only compare the models under $1000 because this is where both companies have ample offerings.

Logitech Conference Cameras

Logitech cameras have a compact and sleek design which is great for portability. They feature the top-of-the-line Carl Zeiss Optic lens with 9-point touch auto focus and 90-degree field of view. All three models record video at Full HD 1080p resolution and feature on-board H.264 encoding. They are classified as USB Video Class devices (UVC) because they stream video via USB although ConferenceCam Connect and CC3000e also support Bluetooth and NFC.

The two more expensive models are cross platform compatible with Android and Windows 8.1 devices. They can also be used as control units for other PTZOptics or even HuddleCam HD cameras by pairing them via Bluetooth. Another advantage Logitech has is the inclusion of full duplex speakerphone system and Omni-directional microphones on the control dock. All three cameras come with a remote control for pan, tilt, zoom or answer, mute or end calls.

Logitech ConferenceCams are designed for small and medium rooms so they will not be as effective in large meeting spaces. ConferenceCam CC3000e supports up to 10x digital lossless zoom which is excellent for a small camera. And ConferenceCam Connect has a built-in battery that lasts up to 3 hours during conference calls.

HuddleCam HD Cameras

HuddleCam HD USB cameras all come with the same lens but different functionality. There are four models available under $1000 mark. These models offer 3x and 10x optical zoom as well as 1080p and 720p video streaming via USB 2.0. HuddleCam HD cameras feature 1/3” CMOS 2.1 megapixel camera sensor and lens depends on the camera model. Unlike Logitech cameras which have limited pan and tilt angles, HuddleCam HD cameras feature up to 359-degree pan and 240-degree tilt (varies by model). One of the main differences is professional control options for RS-232 which allows the HuddleCamHD camera line to to be integrated into larger control systems such as Crestron and AMX. HuddleCam actually offers free Crestron and Extron control modules on their website.

Although these cameras do not have certifications from Microsoft and Cisco but they are 100% compatible with Skype for Business, Skype, Lync, Cisco Jabber, WebEx, GoToMeeting, Zoom US and so on. They do not require any additional software to run and feature an IR remote to control pan, tilt and zoom movements of the camera. These four models are designed for small and medium sized rooms and the long 10x optical zoom allows focusing on anything in the room.

Unfortunately, except for the 3x models the 10x cameras have a low field of view compared to Logitech cameras. This can be advantageous for capturing objects at a further distance but the tradeoff is obviously missing objects that are very close to the camera. Logitech has obviously decided to go after the smaller rooms where HuddleCamHD has a option for small rooms the 10X cameras are more meant for medium boardroom size rooms of 20x'x20'. At the same price, Logitech is offering additional speakerphone and microphone as well as pairing ability to use remote pan tilt zoom plugins for Skype for Business. All these additional features do point towards Logitech being a better buy but HuddleCam HD does not lag that much behind. HuddleCamHD obviously has a professional AV market covered that Logitech does not seem to cater too. For example consider some of the extra features like Image Flip that could be a requirement for various installations. It's also worth mentioning HuddleCamHD offers higher end camera models not mentioned in this comparison that go far beyond Logitech's abilities. Check out the HuddleCam Air if you are interested in wireless USB video conference camera.
